The 2024 Genser PGA Championship, set to take place at the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono, Ghana, is drawing significant attention as countries like Uganda, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana prepare feverishly for the prestigious event.
Scheduled from November 27 to November 30, 2024, this tournament marks the 11th edition of the professional golf championship and introduces a new sponsor: Genser Energy. A leading energy solutions provider specializing in sustainable distributed generation, Genser Energy will support the four-day championship, marking a new chapter in the history of the PGA Championship in Ghana.
The competition will feature three categories: regular professionals, seniors, and a ladies’ division. It will adhere to the rules of golf as set by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the United States Golf Association, and the local guidelines of the Celebrity Golf Club.
The regular professionals will compete in a 72-hole stroke play format over four days, while the seniors and ladies will play over three days. A total prize pool of GHS 411,000 has been announced, attracting participants from across the region who are eager to vie for victory on the final day. Following Nigeria’s Sunday Oladape’s victory at the previous championship in Damang, Ghanaian regular professionals have intensified their training to reclaim the title.
Prominent golfers, including Kojo Barnin, Vincent Torgah, Maxwell Owusu Bonsu, Augustine Mannaseh, and Lucky Ayisah—winner of the Memory Lane Qualifier and the Ghana Open Tournament at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi—are rigorously preparing for the tournament.
Alhaji Ahmed Padori, Director of Operations at the PGA, expressed gratitude to Genser Energy for their support, emphasizing the importance of such investments for the championship’s success. He also encouraged local professionals to train thoroughly for the competition.
Former and current PGA tournament directors, Rev. Akwasi Prempeh and Eric Henaku, assured the media that significant preparations are underway at the Celebrity Golf Club to ensure a smooth and successful event.
